What is CAD:

The letters CAD stand for computer-aided drafting. CAD is the use of computer technology for the design of objects, real or virtual.

CAD often involves more than just shapes. A combination of hardware and software allows architects, drafters, engineers, and artists to create plans, construction drawings and artwork in both 2 and 3 dimension.

Before the age of computers, drawings and blueprints were drafted by hand. CAD is more efficient because the software records lines as vectors based on mathematical equations.

At Pointmap we utilize ArcView software, to build a GIS project using the information you send to us in electronic or paper format. We manage the acquisition of online data including aerial photos and topography maps.

What is a Digitizer:

The definition of a digitizer (also known as drawing tablets or digitizer tablets) is an input device for converting analog to digital data using a single pointing device. Sometime people confuse scanning with digitizing, which is a completely different process. Digitizers are also used for software menu overlays where the user can select commands in CAD much faster from the tablet menu as opposed to selecting them in the software. Digitizers are great time-savers when entering data into CAD programs. At Pointmap we can digitize client's non-electronic papers into a CAD or GIS program that can be quickly and easily modified.

Pointmap plotting capabilities with the HP 800 and HP 800ps include color options and paper sizes ranging from 11 x 17 to 42 x 72.
