What is GIS?

Pointmap uses ArcView, a product of ESRI, to produce ArcView project files (.mxd). These project files dynamically link shapefiles, which contain spatial data and attribute information, drawing files, aerial images, photos, and database files. These files can then be transferred to a client's computer system which then can be viewed using ArcView. Advances in the ArcView software improve the way that clients can interact with it. Pointmap can customize project files to include advanced scripting, customized interfaces, and interactive dialogs.

For users who do not wish to spend the money or time purchasing and learning ArcView, ESRI has provided a free utility for viewing GIS information. It is called ArcExplorer and it is free via download from the ESRI website. If a client wishes to use this utility, we can produce a CD which would then contain the GIS information, a copy of ArcExplorer, and an ArcExplorer project file with the GIS information already attached.
